Designing Careers in the Independent Performing Arts
Designing Careers in the Independent Performing Arts
Careers within the independent performing arts community are as diverse as the community itself. They are frequently marked by incalculable factors and, in contrast to many other professional fields within the arts, employment contracts secured for multiple years are much more the exception than the rule. The highly intrinsic motivation of the members of the community is often a reason for accepting these conditions, even if they seem to leave space only for reacting as opposed to shaping, due to their dominance. But is that true? How can one’s own capacity for designing a career be expanded?
Using psychological background knowledge, exercises, case studies and exchanges over the course of conversation, the participants of the workshop will receive the opportunity to develop new perspectives and strategies for how they can design their life as a creative in a more self-determined and satisfying manner.
