Ensemble and Participation – Hierarchies, Salaries, Exclusion
Ensemble and Participation – Hierarchies, Salaries, Exclusion
The members of the independent performing arts community are strongest when they are together: collectives and ensembles are defining organizational form for the independent performing arts community; after all, solo artists only work without a team under very rare circumstances. These sustainable economic strategies have become established within the financially uncertain, precarious professional field referred to as the "independent arts”. How does this effect the societal experiences and actions of the members of the community and their participation within (cultural) policy and the budgets allocated to culture? Which forms of hierarchy change and which remain the same, even within collective structures. In which developments within repertory and ensemble theaters can these structural changes also be found? Which actions do we support with fees? How is the fee structure changing within the independent performing arts community as well as within the repertory and ensemble theaters? And who do the dance and theater communities exclude? And why? Or do they exclude themselves?
