Independent Theater Archive Update

The often-low number of performances within the independent performing arts community makes independent dance, theater and performance productions seem even more ephemeral than the performing arts are in the first place. This is why the foundations for the configuration of an archive for independent theater has been driven forward so strongly in recent years by a number of dedicated institutions and individuals. It is now time for the next step: The Independent Theater Archive will essentially be established as a decentralized project with a small administrative and logistics center which offers support and structure for regionally and locally conceived archive projects. The most decentralized access possible to the content of the archive will allow the most diverse possible view of objects and materials related to independent theater. Individual projects on city and state levels represent the practical work level on-site and offer the opportunity for close communication with artists and collectors. In addition, it will provide space for the artistic and academic interpretation of the materials collected.
