Song and Gender in New Forms of Narration

Opera as well as pop music feature monstrous gender images which have created entire genres around themselves. These gender images are further cemented in place through pitches of the voice which are readily assigned to a genre, singing schools and styles and the directness with which song comes from the body. In contemporary narratives, however, stories outside of the classic gender roles are told in increasingly central positions. Which cultures are developing here? Which doors will be the next to open?
